Tuna
The tuna fishing around Cape Cod, especially for bluefin tuna, can be world class! The waters to the east and north of Cape Cod hold bluefin from 30lbs to 1000 lbs all summer long, but the most common size fish caught the last few years in these areas is from 75-150lbs . These prized fish are considered one of the best sushi fish anywhere and often fetch some of the highest prices of any fish in the world. Bluefin tuna can be a challenge on any tackle and often will bring the strongest and most experienced anglers to their knees, curso de negociação! The bluefin generally show up around the last week of May and can be caught into November and sometimes December with June and October being the prime time for the larger fish. Using a variety of different techniques such as live bait kite fishing, trolling, casting and butterfly jigging to gives you the best shot at landing your trophy bluefin tuna.
The warm waters of July and August will bring the yellowfin tuna and other pelagic species to the edges of the continental shelf to the south of Marthas Vineyard. Trolling is the primary method used when fishing in these areas and often times trips to these far off canyons will yield a wide array of species including bigeye, yellowfin and albacore tuna, marlin, wahoo and mahi mahi. Generally we stay over night at the canyons and will either drift baits for swordfish or will chuck and butterfly jig for tuna at night.
